About me

Born in Scotland in 1979, I am a painter whose practice spans both classical representational techniques and contemporary abstract approaches. My work moves fluidly between expressive realism and abstraction, exploring atmosphere, memory, and sense of place.

Predominantly focused on landscapes and seascapes, my primary subject is the Scottish coast—a connection rooted in childhood holidays spent exploring coastal towns and villages while visiting family.

These formative experiences, shared more recently with my wife Carla, continue to shape my visual language and thematic focus.

"These transitional moments evoke a sense of nostalgia and dreamlike reflection that I strive to capture in my work."

Drawing on the rhythms and textures of nature, I’m particularly drawn to the interplay of light and shadow at sunrise and sunset. These transitional moments evoke a sense of nostalgia and dreamlike reflection that I strive to capture in my work.

I work mainly in oils, often employing a loose alla prima style with expressive mark-making and impasto passages. Alongside this, I use oil and cold wax medium to build atmospheric vistas through layered surfaces — allowing textures and forms to emerge and recede, revealing the painting’s history as I work.

My work features locations such as Barra in the Outer Hebrides, St Andrews, and sites along Scotland’s east coast. My paintings are held in private collections throughout the UK and have been exhibited internationally, including exhibitions in Los Angeles and Florence.
